Get to Know nuuwaï!

Hi, we are nuuwaï. Glad you're joining us on the new way of fashion!

nuuwaï is a fair fashion brand for bags made of vegan leather alternatives. Our handbags, accessories and homeware are not only fairly and sustainably produced. Above all, they should show that "vegan" can be fun and easy.

Our core materials are AppleSkin and UltraWer. The first is made from waste of the apple juice industry, the second from industrial corn. Our lining consists of recycled polyester. Please find more information about our sustainable materials here.

We manufacture our vegan products in Europe, more precisely in Germany and Spain. This way we reduce delivery distances and enable a manufacturing process under fair conditions. Get more insights here.

Our founder Svenja Detto has been living vegan for many years and has a great passion for the environment and animals (especially for her cats Schröder and Gandhi). In 2016, she heard about vegan "apple leather" for the first time when she happened to see a TV report about AppleSkin:

"I was really amazed by the idea of turning apple waste into a vegan 'apple leather'. It always bothered me that most vegan handbags are made of PVC. But as I couldn't find any bags made from the material, I decided to produce them myself."

That's how the idea for nuuwaï was born and since 2018 we officially exist. As a female founded business, we wish to inspire other young women to start up as well. 

And in case you were wondering how nuuwaï is actually pronounced, it's an art word derived from the English "new way": nuu-waï [n​u​u-​vaɪ̯]

Where the Journey Goes

Although we are a small team, we regularly support social projects and will continue to do so in the future. For our latest campaign, we have been collecting donations for Chalk Back Deutschland e.V. / Catcalls of Hannover since April 2022. Together with the fair fashion label boochen, we want to set a statement against catcalling through fair fashion - learn more!

We are also constantly working on further developing our products. To do this, we test the latest innovations for leather alternatives. So that your next nuuwaï bag is even more sustainable and accompanies you as long as possible.
